IELTS – Healthcare Professionals – Exam Preparation Course

It is a legal requirement by the General Medical Council that non – EU healthcare professionals have a standard of English which is assessed by the IELTS testing system. This may be a good way to test language level however it does not prepare you for UK Cultural norms and colloquial language that you will find working in a busy hospital in the UK both in the public and private sector.

Our course also focuses on helping you recognise some cultural linguistic practices such as:

  • Recognising patient colloquial references for medical conditions
  • How to develop communication strategies
  • How to convey meaning through your intonation and tone of voice
  • Understanding non-verbal communication in the UK
  • To read and respond effectively to the subtleties of language

WHY

Doctors

“To book your place to take PLAB you must, among other things, show us you have the necessary knowledge of English. IELTS is an English Language test administered by the British Council, IDP Education Australia and Cambridge ESOL. For us to accept your IELTS certificate it must show that you got a score of at least 7.0 in each testing area (speaking, listening, reading and writing), and an overall score of 7.5.” (http://www.gmc-uk.org/)

Nurses

“It is a requirement of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). The NMC is the regulator for all nurses and midwives in the UK. All nurses and midwives who want to work in the UK must register with the NMC, who will give you a PIN number. Nurses from outside the EU will not get a PIN number unless they have an IELTS level 7.0 or above. Without a PIN number you cannot work as a nurse or a midwife in the UK” ( http://www.mgmedical.co.uk/)
